We led our first week of the art camp in Kitchener this summer from July 8th to July 12th, here are the highlights from that week!
This week we followed the theme of summer nature in our art pieces, focusing on different aspects of summer every day such as lush trees, flowers, insects, fruit, and landscapes!
Every day we made sure to go and spend time outside, play on a playground, and enjoy the weather and beautiful scenery of Victory Park, taking inspiration from our surroundings to get the creative juices flowing.
During our daily park visit, our art instructor, Marien, conducted art lessons, explaining the step-by-step drawing process. This is her teaching the kids how to draw a peach, with the correct colors and proper shading, they all loved it and made their peaches each one unique and special to them!
One day campers learned how to draw a car going on a road trip. Kids created different landscapes behind the car - their favorite places to travel.
While inside, during a rainy morning, Marien guided the campers through her artistic process, here we were following her directions in drawing an orange Lily flower, this taught them how to blend the colors of the petals by transitioning between red, orange, and yellow. the kids were hard at work, laser-focused to make sure everything was smooth and turned out beautiful.
This short video demonstrates campers' results of flowers, peaches, tree drawings, and paintings.
Campers also created team projects - a big map of an imaginary world. They were focused to draw and color the map together!
Some days we took out the clay to let the kids sculpt by following the step-by-step instructions shown in clay guidebooks! Kids love clay and sculpturing. By the way, we have Sculpting courses during the Fall session.
Here is a yellow cat sitting in a pink chair made by one of our campers:
Campers drew and painted other projects, used different mediums, learnt art techniques, made friends, and had a lot of fun!
We are very thankful to all the kids, their parents, and volunteers who helped a lot.
It was an amazing experience together!
Enjoy watching two videos - highlights of our first July week:
